Open Chambered Moroccan Fossil Ammonite
Once the most abundant animals of the ancient seas, these fossilized treasures are a modern-day work of art!
Ammonites are extinct marine animals that lived over 416 million years ago! Closely resembling squid, their name is derived from their spiral shape, as their fossilized shells somewhat resemble tightly-coiled rams horns. As ammonites grew, they added newer and larger chambers closest to the end of the coil. Only the last and largest chamber, the body chamber, was occupied by the living animal at any given moment.
This beautiful specimen features a subtle oak leaf suture pattern and open chambers.
Metal stand included.
