Charcoal Sculpture Pedestal - Medium

Sculptural in its own right, the Charcoal Sculpture Pedestal series are left to age as they find their form with deep grooves and movement in the grain. The piece, made of solid Douglas Fir wood, is then treated with the shou-sugi-ban application of burning the first few layers of wood and finished with a clear matte seal. As this is a solid piece of timber, it will continue to expand, breathing into its new environment showing variations in color as it moves, exposing the natural wood beneath the finish.
