Guide to an Elegant Reset for Mind and Body
January 2nd | Mont Tremblant, Canada
This morning, I awoke with the kind of clarity that only a quiet winter sunrise can bring. The soft light filtered through my window, casting long golden shadows across the room, as if nature itself was painting a fresh start. There is something about this time of year—a moment between past and future—that invites a gentle renewal, a refinement of habits, a commitment to grace in all things. This is not about reinvention but about returning to myself with a sense of poise and intention. As I reached for my teacup, the scent of bergamot curling into the air, I thought of something the ever-elegant Deeda Blair once said: "Simplicity, carried to an extreme, becomes elegance."

A Ritual of Stillness: Resetting My Mind
Before I refine the outer, I must tend to the inner. An elegant reset begins with creating space for stillness. Early mornings are best spent in quiet contemplation—perhaps with a cup of Earl Grey Supreme from Harney & Sons, its delicate aromas offering warmth and clarity.
I start my morning with a few minutes of deep breathing while waiting for my water to boil. These small acts, done consistently, make all the difference. Once my tea is steeping, I take a moment to review my dreams and desires, scribbling down any lingering thoughts or inspirations. Writing in my journal isn’t an obligation but a way to center my mind, make space for inspiration, and set intentions with grace. This is also when I review my calendar, ensuring my days align with what truly matters.
Surprise and delight are things I like to plan for and include in my calendar—small joys that elevate the everyday. A new book for the weekend, a fresh playlist to accompany work, a new recipe to try, or a late afternoon set aside to visit an exhibition. Today, I think I’ll finally re-watch To Catch a Thief—Grace Kelly’s wardrobe is endlessly inspiring, and I could use a bit of Riviera escapism.
The Beauty of a Well-Tended Body
True elegance is not only seen but felt. A mindful reset for my body means slowing down and treating self-care as a ceremony rather than a task. In the mornings, I take a few extra moments to work in my cleanser, using gentle upward strokes, and then follow with a gua sha hand massage as I apply serum and moisturizer—just a few minutes, but the effects are transformative. My skin looks fresher, and I wear far less makeup when I stay consistent with this ritual.
For fragrance, I layer essential oils from Aromatherapy Associates with my Chanel No. 5. Something familiar yet deeply personal. As Vogue recently noted, “A well-chosen fragrance is a woman’s most invisible yet unforgettable accessory.” (vogue.com)
As for nourishment, I find that simplicity is best. Plenty of water, sleep, and fresh, whole foods make me feel my best. I already know what my body thrives on—there’s no need for extremes, just a return to what I know works. I am gently removing what no longer serves me and making space for more of what nourishes.
Dressing with Intention
A refined reset extends to my wardrobe. Instead of seeing it as a collection of items, I approach it as a reflection of who I am and who I aspire to be. I am planning an afternoon to edit my closet, inspired by my chosen muses.
Gone are the impulse buys; what remains will be the pieces that feel like me—midi dresses in delicate floral prints that drape just right, a tailored coat that elevates even the simplest outfit, the pearl earrings that never fail to add quiet polish, my Chanel slingbacks which have been my signature for years already and why change, they are perfection.
I’ve always been drawn to old-world glamour: structured handbags, beautifully cut dresses, a signature pair of sunglasses. It’s not about dressing up for an occasion but ensuring that my everyday wardrobe reflects my best self.
Three Things I’m Grateful for Today:
-
The possibility of new beginnings.
-
The sight of snowflakes falling outside my window.
-
Having my daughter home from college. Such a blessing!
Daily Reminders:
-
Take a moment to apply hand cream with care; my Clarins hand cream is almost finished—perhaps time to replenish. I’ve been considering a switch—Lancome Absolue has been tempting me lately.
-
Go for a walk outside in the snow and take pictures.
-
Start planning my birthday, same menu as always Veuve Cliquot, baked potatoes with caviar and chocolate cake.
There is no urgency in refinement—only the quiet joy of tending to what is already beautiful. This season, I want to move with intention, embrace my rhythms, and elevate the everyday. May I find beauty in small moments, grace in simple rituals, and joy in returning to myself.
