A Chat With Jenny Hughes...
Q. What inspired you to start your blog, Hello Hughes? And today, what continues to inspire you?
A. Hello Hughes started as a place to document my life and to talk about my motherhood experience. As a first time mom there were so many huge & tricky topics that I would chat about with my mom friends, those dialogues really helped me through the first year & I wanted to share my viewpoint with someone who maybe was looking for the same answers I was. I was always interested in fashion, interior design, and entertaining and the blog has really helped bring out those passions for me, and those have become equally important parts of Hello Hughes as well.
Q. Your daughter Reese’s 1st birthday theme “Scoop Shop” was adorable, any children’s birthday resources you could share with us?
A. Thank you! My parties are always such a labor of love. I try to do as much DIY as I can to make it especially unique. Pinterest is always my number one place to gather party planning ideas and always where I start brainstorming.
Q. What is one piece of advice you would give to a mother struggling with her post-baby body?
A. Be patient. After my first pregnancy, I dropped the baby weight so fast and felt like myself again within weeks. Round two was another story. It took almost a whole year to feel like I had my body back, and even now it still feels different than it was even though I'm back in my old clothes and the numbers on the scale are what they used to be. Honestly, it was really hard for me for a long time, I didn't love what I looked like and wasn't happy with the weight I had gained, but it was a process to put it on and also one to take it off, and now I feel fit & healthy again, even if it took some time.
Q. First thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
A. Look at my phone (if we're being honest)! After my daughter turned one I stopped nursing so my husband actually takes the kids right down for breakfast now when they wake up and I get a little alone time. Then I mosey out of bed and wash my face and brush my teeth, I have to do it right then or I won't ever do it!
Q. 3 things you always keep in your purse?
Chapstick, sunglasses & a brush. (And of course my wallet!)
Q. What is your favorite go-to dessert to make during the summer?
A. S'MORES! Ok so it's not the most interesting dessert, but I don't love spending a ton of time cooking in the summer & this one is so much fun to do outside around the firepit with the kids! I have to say I love the experience with my little ones more than the actual dessert, but you can't go wrong with marshmallows, graham crackers & chocolate!
Q. Mama philosophy you live by.
A. Everything is a phase. I am constantly telling myself this, whether it's to soak in the little moments or to get through the tough times. Both of my kids as infants were terrible sleepers, but I knew it wouldn't be like that forever. It's hard to rationalize at 3am after being up all night every night for months on end, but I would try to tell myself that this time would pass & we would all sleep again. Same goes for times now when I look at my daughter who's a little over a year and at my favorite age, to really try to memorize how she is right now, because this time too would pass.
Q. What brands are you loving at the moment?
A. A few brands I’m loving right now are Cuyana for leather goods & accessories. I love this hat and this travel set. Petite Plume for classic pajamas for the whole family, I love this nightgown, and this pj set for kids. I'm loving Bloomist for clean, decorative home goods. This chain is a favorite as well as this vase.

Q. What is your beauty routine before bed? Do you have any beauty product obsessions?
A. I'm keeping it pretty simple these days because my skin has been going through a lot this year hormonally being postpartum. I wash with a gentle cleanser, use tretinoin, and my favorite beauty product to use at night is Rodan & Fields Lash Boost. People ask all the time if I have fake lashes it makes them so much longer and fuller!
Q. Personal accounts you love to follow on Instagram for inspiration?
A. I love following @bornonfifth, Emily has such an inspirational style and aesthetic. Sarah of @sarahgtucker is another gal I love to follow for her effortless looks, motherhood inspo & travel. @finding__lovely 's Jackie has a gorgeous home and has such an eye for design.
